JULY #5 - Let's Make History

Let’s make some history!

It’s time we focus on all of the great things going on in our county and LD20. Did you know that we have broken our all-time high number of elected Democrat PCs for the upcoming cycle? LD20 broke their own record for highest number of elected PCs to start the cycle at 71. This is the first time ever where we have Democrats running for all of the Board of Supervisor positions along with County-wide positions. We continue to break records in LD20 with our Primary turnout at 26.5% landing us in the middle of the pack for all of the county districts which is an improvement from prior cycles.  If you know someone with a ballot, tell them to turn it in. Let’s continue to make history in LD20 for the General Election, too.

Help our Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) HQ rebuild from the fire:

The fire at MCDP HQ may have burned the Office building and the memorabilia inside of it, but our mission continues to turn our state blue.  If you can help out with funds, consider donating to a special fire relief fund which has been setup to help us rebuild.  http://Maricopadems.org/recoveryfund

Be a poll worker – help preserve Democracy!

Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) is looking for volunteers who can help out at the polls by being a poll watcher. Your role would be to observe the activities at the polls and report back any incidents of voter intimidation. It’s imperative that everyone who wants to vote, be able to vote and not feel threatened by anyone. MCDP will provide training. This year, more than ever, this activity will be critical to preserve our democracy. If you can help out, please contact: Janet Wilson at [email protected] and provide your name, address, & phone #.  Thank you.

While we hope you didn’t miss our July 21st monthly meeting, the news is so exciting in LD20, it bears repeating.  If the voter turnout during the primaries for LD20 is any indication of what’s in store for the general election then we won’t be in the last third of the LDs in Maricopa County for turnout.  We heard how voter turnout in LD20 has improved in 2020 when compared to the same time in 2018 and 2016.  In fact, Democrat turnout at the time of our meeting was at 12.7% while Republican turnout was at 11.5%.  The turnout for those in the oldest age category (65+) is doing the best at 25.8% while the youngest age category (18-24) is the lowest at 4.1%. Statewide, 195,000 Dems returned early ballots as contrasted to 193,000 Reps.

We also heard from some of our PCs who made us aware of some exciting activities and worthwhile organizations. In particular, PC Malicki reported on the meaningful work being done by the Tiny House Developers based in Phoenix run by Elizabeth Singleton. More info at the Tiny House Developers website.

If you know someone with a ballot, tell them to mail it now!
